Bryan Singer Teases a Page from the X-Men: Apocalypse Treatment

Jun
30

Bryan Singer has shared a tantalizingly (infuriatingly) small look at the screenplay-in-progress for X-Men: Apocalypse. There's only a few small plot details we can glean from it regarding the direction of the new film, but hot damn is it exciting just to know that it's coming along.

Funny Books: Strip Searches All Day, Every Day In Those Who Chases The Ageha [Series Spotlight]

Jun
27

Following our successful recap of Days of Future Past, Funny Books is kicking off a series of comic spotlights, highlighting a few of our favorites (or at least someone's favorites). When thinking about what Manga to write about, I considered a few options. Should I cover important manga like Akira, incredible manga like 20th Century Boys, or epic manga like Lone Wolf and Cub? Then I read Those Who Chase The Ageha, a story about an ex-prison guard hunting down a master actress by tearing off women’s clothing. It’s not as bad as you’d think, but worse than you’d hope.

Review: Pariah #5 Is Lonely and Technologically Magical

Jun
26

Back when I originally reviewed the first volume of Pariah, I stated that I had many problems with it from its unrealistic superhuman explanations to the unguided moral compass of beings with higher thought. So when issue #5 made its way to my desk, I was reluctant for fear of the same complaints. And how did it fare? Well, some things are better and some things just don’t change.

Review: Mind MGMT #23 Continues the Fine Tradition of Shocking the Audience

Mind MGMT manages to blow the narrative out of the water again with another disturbingly good issue.

The Pull List: Robert Kirkman's Outcast Proves Visually Stunning

Jun
25

Welcome to The Pull List, a weekly column where I check out the first issue of a new comic and tell you whether or not you should start following that comic based only on that. There are plenty of comics that seem to have a hard time keeping to a schedule, but Robert Kirkman's massively succesful Walking Dead isn't one of those, and for that consistency alone, I have a lot of respect for that creative team. So it was that I decided to take a chance on Kirkman's latest creation, Outcast.

Game of Bones: Recasting the Show With Tiny, Costumed Dogs

Jun
24

We're in for a long wait before Game of Thrones Season 5 arrives (and probably even longer than that before we get Winds of Winter), but there is one thing that can make the wait a little more manageable: replacing all of the characters with adorable pugs. Although, that would probably make the Red Wedding about 90 billion times worse.

Watch the Roots' Epic Harry Potter Freestyle Rap

Jun
19

Tonight Show house band and all-around cool group of musicians, The Roots, are apparently big fans of Harry Potter. The group's lead MC Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter is also one hell of a freestyle rapper. I think you know where this is going (yes, it's absolutely magical).

Hodor's Hodoring is Based on a Real Medical Condition

Jun
19

On Game of Thrones, Hodor is a character best known for his inability to say anything but Hodor. In fact, his name isn't even actually Hodor, everyone just calls him that because it's literally all he says. Where did George R.R. Martin come up with such a condition? Not Pokemon apparently (that was my best guess), it's actually based on a real medical condition.

Quentin Tarantino is Mashing-Up Django and Zorro, No Seriously

Jun
19

Quentin Tarantino is insane, and that's kind of amazing. He's announced that he's co-writing a comic book that will have Django Unchained's titular character teaming up with the one and only Zorro.

The Pull List: The Wicked + The Divine Just Doesn't Quite Add Up

Jun
18

Welcome to The Pull List, a weekly column where I check out the first issue of a new comic and tell you whether or not you should start following that comic based only on that. After taking last week off because of the insanity that is E3, this week I'm back with the first installment in a comic that many have been anticipating, The Wicked + The Divine. I, however, know nothing about it.

Jason Momoa is Justice League's Aquaman (Probably)

Jun
17

It's been rumored for months, but according to a new report, Jason Momoa has signed the dotted line to play Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Funny Books: Zot! The Tragic Beauty of Escapism [Series Spotlight]

Jun
13

Following our successful recap of Days of Future Past, Funny Books is kicking off a series of comic spotlights, highlighting a few of our favorites (or at least someone's favorites). So a few weeks ago, Funny Books released the 8CN’s Unofficial Best Comics List. Unfortunately, a lot of great comics didn’t make the cut. In light of this fact, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention a great comic that recently made my personal top five, Zot!

Marvel is Bringing in Vincent D'Onofrio to Play Kingpin

Jun
10

Marvel announced today that Vincent D'Onofrio would be cast as the infamous William Fisk, otherwise known as Kingpin. D'Onofrio is more recently know for playing Detective Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but his credentials stretch on and on ranging from comedy to dramas.

Funny Books: Gen13, The Ultimate 90’s Comic [Series Spotlight]

Jun
06

Following our successful recap of Days of Future Past, Funny Books is kicking off a series of comic spotlights, highlighting a few of our favorites (or at least someone's favorites). So because of how time works, a lot of the young adults today are children of the 1990’s and thus have a nostalgic affection for that period of grudge music, cell colored animation, and Clinton booty calls. Luckily for all you Millennials out there, I have the perfect window into the past. It’s called Gen13, and it is 90’s as f@#$!
