Report: Google Has Acquired Twitch for $1 Billion

According to a report from Variety via "sources familiar with the pact," Google has just agreed to Twitch for a cool $1 billion. That's a huge amount of money, but given that Twitch is the de facto leader in video game streaming, it's a deal that makes sense on paper for Google.

Variety does caution that although an agreement has been reached, it's not a done deal. Because YouTube and Twitch are both arguably the #1 services in their fields, Google would still need to stand up to a challenge from the Justice Department to allow this acquisition to happen.

Neither Twitch nor Google has addressed the report, we'll update when we hear more.
