A Shot-by-Shot Analysis of the Ant-Man Trailer

Our first real look at Marvel's Ant-Man debuted on TV today following the season premiere of Agent Carter (it was a damn good Tuesday night, that's for sure). As with anything Marvel, there are more than a few blink-and-you'll-miss-'em moments in this teaser, so let's break it down shot-by-shot and see what we can find.

First things first, here's the trailer if you missed it:

The teaser opens with the ol' city skyline shot.

"Scott, I've been watching you for a while now."

We're introduced to Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, getting arrested. In the comics, Lang turned to petty theft in order to pay for treatments for his sick daughter. We'll see more of that later on in the trailer.

Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. He appears to be watching Lang's arrest, which leads me to believe that Lang just tried to break into Pym's facility. There's more evidence for this idea in a bit.

"You're different."

Paul Rudd looking reflective (get it?).

Scott Lang getting out of prison.

"Now don't let anyone tell you that you have nothing to offer."

Much of the film's principle photography took place in San Francisco, so expect the city to play a big role.

"Second chances don't come around all too often."

Scott Lang meeting Hank Pym. This looks like it takes place inside of the prison, so maybe it precedes the previous shot chronologically (ie: Pym pays Lang a visit in prison). In the comics, Lang steals Pym's Ant-Man tech, so if the movie takes a similar direction, that would explain why the two are acquainted. The line makes it sound like Pym is approaching Lang with some kind of an offer... maybe an offer to suit up as we'll see later on in the trailer.

"I suggest you take a really close look at it."

"This is your chance."

Pym hard at work in his lab.

"To earn that look in your daughter's eyes."

Pym's sick daughter.

This is likely a lab/facility owned by Darren Cross (who we'll see in a bit). He's the main antagonist of the film, a former protege of Pym who's taken over Pym's company. It's been confirmed that Cross will be suiting up at some point, having developed his own "Yellowjacket" suit, a much more advanced version of Pym's Ant-Man technology.
