Track of the Day: Satan Ascends, Piggybacking on Tito Puente

Jun
16

How does one get away with adding congas and horns to Black Sabbath classics without the thing collapsing into a pile of ill-founded cross-cultural pollination? Well, I guess that was an interesting, albeit silly, rhetorical que- WAIT A GODDAMMIT MINUTE, IT EXISTS--Brown Sabbath is the temporary nom de plume of Austin psych-funk group Brownout, and they've accomplished the aforementioned impossibility, much to my delight.

Larusso - "Life In Static" [Album Review]

Jun
16

Do you pine for the days when you used to shop at Hot Topic and wear too much eyeliner? Do you wish you could go back to those middle-school days where you felt like Anberlin and New Found Glory really understood you?! Do you want to relive Warped Tour ’03 forever?!

Lumerians Descended Upon Los Globos Theater in Spectral Regalia

Jun
14

Thursday 6.12, Lumerians donned their eeriest Virgin Mary outfits to play LA's 80-year old nightclub, Los Globos, along with two of the area's prime psych-rock staples, Dahga Bloom and JJUUUJJUUU. It was a set as surreal as its venue, full of imagery and sound I'm definitely going to wake up screaming silently to, in a few score years.

Electro-house - Aubergine MACHINE - Hostage

Jun
13

Hurray, more soundcloud wanderings! This is sort of how I unwind at the end of certain days, so here we are. Aubergine MACHINE's single Hostage, complete with a remix (because why not?) and an incongruous video to accompany a cover a Strokes song, offers at least 66% percent satisfaction. There's feet and heads, ethereal vocals and space aplenty to explore.

Jangle-Pop Track of the Day: "Twin Speaks" - Jon McKiel

Jun

Here's a track off Jon McKiel's self-titled return, released today; it's tough to come off as simultaneously non-chalant and gagging with feels, but what can I say? McKiel is the real deal.
